With the end of the trimester coming to an end and holidays coming up, there is a lot happening at SEM.

Aileen Cotter ’18 and her grandma on Grandparent Morning, 2016.

November 21, 2017: Grandparent Morning: On the last day of school before Thanksgiving break, SEM welcomes grandparents to come in for the morning. Grandparents will attend morning meeting, some of their granddaughter’s classes, and have the opportunity to participate in The Great Listen. This is a great way to ease into the holiday. “It’s a lot of fun. I love spending time with them. It’s such a cute day,” said Kailyn Lane ’19.

November 22- 26, 2017: Thanksgiving Break: Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and their families! Now is the time to spend time with family, relax, catch up on some sleep, and eat some delicious food.

November 28, 2017: 1 Trimester Ends

November 29, 2017: 2 Trimester Begins

Class of 2018 members Brooke Pohlman, Grace Heidinger, Shelby Kmidowski, Cienna Certo and Charlotte Long at Hanging of the Greens in 2016.

December 1, 2017: Hanging of the Greens: New this year, each class is tasked to create a banner which focuses on their legacy. Anyone can submit a banner and the winner will be voted on by each class. The design theme is light. “What light does your class bring to help your community glow?” Along with the theme, each class is assigned a color to integrate. Freshmen have red, sophomores have orange and yellow, juniors have blue and seniors have green. Once the banner is created, every member of each class will make a square to add to the banner. For years to come, these banners will be hung to represent all the classes.

December 1, 2017: Capstone SEMPosium: The seniors have been hard at work throughout the first trimester while they prepare their senior capstone project. This is their time to show off all of the hard work they put into their projects to the SEM community. On this day there are two times for presentations for the projects, one in the morning from 8 – 9:30 am and one in the evening from 7 – 8:30 pm. 19 seniors will present their finished projects on this day in the Chapel, Colby Room, Study Hall, PAC and the Gallery. Parents, faculty, and students are welcome to view the presentations.

December 2, 2017: SEM Entrance ExamFrom 9 am to 12 pm, 7th and 8th grade students who are interested in SEM will be taking the entrance exam in the Study Hall to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. The exam includes a section of English(vocabulary and reading comprehension), math( a mixture of middle school math with a little bit of algebra), and an aptitude part (problem solving). Call 716 885-6780 to register.

December 2, 2017: Snow Ball Dance: Formally known as Winter Gala, SEM’s date dance is called Snow Ball with the themed as a snow globe this year. The dance is open to the entire school and is held in the Chapel from 7 -10 pm. You do not have to bring a date, however, you’re more than welcome to bring friends from other schools or even family members. “I’m excited. It looked pretty last year in the chapel which I’m excited to see again,” said Jenna Smolorek ’19. Tickets are $15 for a single, $25 for a double, and $40 for a triple. Tickets can be purchased and permission slips can be turned in at the front office.

December 9, 2017: Holiday Bazaar:  The holiday season is right around the corner and so is the annual Holiday Bazaar. From 10 am – 2 pm, you can find the perfect gift for anyone on your holiday list right at SEM. Vendors will be spread out between the Study Hall, Library, the PAC and the Colby Room. There will be specialty foods and spices, artwork, jewelry, accessories, books, candles, and a gift basket raffle.

December 21, 2017: Revel: On the last day of school before Winter Break, the school takes time to celebrate the holidays. The SEM community comes together to sing and enjoy some holiday treats before departing for break. Young Alumnae Reception: Right after Revel, there will be a reception for young alumnae held in the Colby Room. Also, there is an alumnae squash match with the current SEM team which is organized by Isabelle Schlehr ’17.
