The Weeks to Come – April 3, 2017 Edition

Erin Kelly, Managing Editor

Welcome back!

The seniors have 18 regular days of school left! Interim grades and comments for this final trimester go out next week.  These next months at SEM hold solemn occasions, academic achievements and fun traditions for every student. Please see this attachment for a calendar for the end of the year activities and guidelines for dress expectations.

This week Jocelyn Yang ’19  has written about the snow days in the residential houses and Aerin Wagner ’17 covers the March day SEM convened to address student mental and physical well-being.

Colby-Oishei Artist Program

The SEM community is invited this week to celebrate the Colby-Oishei artist program – a talk and art show on Friday night from 7-8 PM in the Margaret L. Wendt (1903) Performing Arts Center. To celebrate the 50th Colby-Oishei artist Buffalo Seminary is proud and honored to welcome the first one: Pamela Mitchell Henrich ’62.

 SEM Launches a Speaker Series

April 27, SEM will launch a speaker series with Olivia Haas, Director of Strategic Communications & Research at the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools. Ms. Haas will report national trends and solid research on the advantages and the value of an all-girl education. Parents are invited and this event is open to the public.

Legacy Residential Scholarship

Do you know a girl who would be a great SEM girl? A great Hornet or Jacket? She doesn’t have to be from Buffalo anymore… Because whether she’s from around the block or around the world – Buffalo Seminary has a place for her in our 5- or 7-day boarding in the beautiful historic homes next door to the school. Scholarships are now available for residential girls referred by a graduate, trustee of the school, or SEM family for the 2017-18 school year. The purpose of this scholarship is to build our SEM community with talented young women who have a connection to the school.

To nominate a candidate, contact Director of Admission Laura Munson ‘79 at 716.885.6780 or email [email protected].

Summer at SEM Registration is Open

New this year is a sailing class offered at the Buffalo Yacht Club. And, for the second year, the first week of camp is only for girls entering grades 5 and 6 with special programming and orientation just for them. Find out more here.
