The Week That Was Oct. 17-23

And the Week to Come

Erin Kelly, Managing Editor

The week ended on a spectacular high note when yesterday SEM soccer beat St. Mary’s of Lancaster in a semi-final playoff game that was a nail-biter with a sudden death finish.  SEM advanced to play in the finals of the Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association championship on Oct. 30. The fans were frozen and yet exhilarated.

Yesterday, the rain held off and Hawk Walk went without a hitch. Next week Anya Roy and Kyra Fogg will have a feature about the day.

This week in The SEM Weekly Jenna Al-Naji takes us to the UB earthquake simulator with Scientists for Life class; Anya Roy captures the happiness at last field hockey game of the season; Mikang Kim tells covers SEM’s wins at yesterday’s chess tournament and a trip pumpkin picking with the outdoors club and residential students; Jesse Sloier masterfully profiles Kanika Durland; and Leah Kramer captures all the good in the tradition of SEM’s Halloween skits.

Spirit Week starts tomorrow with an interesting salad dressing theme cooked-up by Grace Gallagher.

Parent-teacher conferences are November 2. Use this link to book appointments.

It’s SEM?Quest on November 4. It’s the only parent party fundraiser SEM holds. We do not hold a formal gala event. Instead, we have a fun night of games, quizzes, an auction, delicious food and drink with parents, teachers and trustees. Don’t miss this!

Please let us know if there’s a grandparent you’d like us to invite to Grandparent Morning on November 22.

Please check the full SEM calendar available by the month here.
