Another outstanding performance was turned in this weekend by our rapidly improving SEM XC team at the McQuaid Invitational in Rochester on Saturday, Sept. 30. Competing against the best competition in NYS, every girl ran either a personal best or a season best time.

In our varsity race, nearly 400 runners and 39 complete teams (along with 27 incomplete teams for a total of 66 schools) were entered with SEM finishing in 26th place. SEM had 6 runners finish ahead of the 18 minute / 2 mile cutoff rule allowing SEM to score as a complete team.

Leading the way for SEM again was Zoë Knauss equaling her season best time of 20 minutes 41 seconds and taking home a top finisher medal. Zoë continues to lead our girls on and off the field as she was also named Buffalo Seminary Athlete of the Week last week.

Finishing 2nd for SEM was Julianna Scaccia in a personal best time of 23:13 and taking 1 minute 31 seconds off her previous best.

Finishing 3rd for SEM was Lydia Abbott in a personal best time of 24:22 and taking 1 minute 32 seconds off her previous best.

Finishing 4th for SEM was Tia Browder in a personal best time of 26:44 and taking 3 minutes 36 seconds off her previous best.

Finishing 5th for SEM was Jocelyn Yang in a season best time of 28:07 and taking 1 minute 9 seconds off her previous best.

Completing the scoring team for SEM was Peyton Wagner in a personal best time of 28:24 and taking 3 minutes 12 seconds off her previous best. Rounding out the team and continuing to improve with very respectable  2-mile times were Maggie McCulloch, Melanie Tunkey, Sophia Rodriguez, and Georgia Bontempo.

Thank you to Mrs. Scaccia for the help at the start and finish lines and to team Captain Tessa Covello ’18 for all the coordination at Mile 2 and great support (we hope to get Tessa back from a calf injury next week).
Once again, this young team continues to work hard and show excellent improvement. Way to go girls. You make SEM proud every time!
Next Race: Tuesday October 3rd at Ellicott Creek Park. JV Race starts at 5pm followed by our Varsity Race at 5:30 versus Nardin and Sacred Heart.
