Message from the Parent Association President

I hope your daughters have all been sharing their experiences at Buffalo Seminary with you. I have found it so rewarding to share in my two daughters’ successes and failures. I never cease to be amazed at the young women they are becoming. I hope you also are finding joy in your daughters’ accomplishments.

I hope that you had fun at the all school picnic and SEMQuest. Did your daughters share pictures of Hornet/Jacket Day? They are also available on VIdigami (you will have received an invitation to join Vidigami early in the school year. Please check your spam for it.) Are you a Hornet or a Jacket? If you don’t know, ask your daughters. We are giving Hornet/Jacket points for attendance at Parent Association meetings. Come experience a meeting and earn points for your daughter’s team.

In addition to earning Hornet/Jacket points, those in attendance get to hear the parent association treasurer’s report and often learn information that only gets disseminated at meetings. The meetings offer a unique opportunity to ask questions that you have always wanted to ask. Our Tech Bytes section offers a chance to learn more about finding information yourself online, whether it is SEM portal information, College Board information, or general knowledge.

The holidays are rapidly approaching. We have several wonderful things we do to support the school, the faculty and staff, and our daughters throughout the holidays. Here are just a few:

  1. Staff Appreciation: Families send homemade or store bought breads to school before Thanksgiving to distribute to faculty and staff. Families send cookies before winter break to distribute to faculty and staff. In addition, we provide coffee pods/K-cups for the faculty lounge throughout the year.
  2. We participate in SEM Bazaar. This year we are selling SEM logo make-up bags which will make great stocking stuffers.
  3. We provide lodging to our residential students for the Thanksgiving break. If you are interested in sharing your Thanksgiving traditions and home with a residential student far from home, please contact Ms. Stothart.

As you start your holiday shopping, please consider using Amazon Smile. A portion of the proceeds from every item you buy goes back to SEM, to help your daughters succeed. We will be showing you how to use the Smile program in our November 14 meeting. The Smile program works all year. Type “Smile” in the search bar at Amazon and designate Buffalo Seminary as your recipient.

As you consider gift giving, please consider a pledge to the SEM annual fund. There are many ways you can make a contribution including book billing. Your gift is tax deductible.

This time of the year is filled with events for our daughters. The winter sports season is getting underway. Come root for the Red-Tailed Hawks as they compete in a wide range of indoor sports including basketball, squash, and fencing. The first performance of the fall play is November 16. School clubs have a wide range of individual events and competitions. The seniors are working on college applications. There is so much energy and activity at SEM right now.

As always, please contact me with questions and suggestions.
