New Blue of Yale Visits SEM

A hometown tour for Abby Hopkins ’16

New Blue sang Saturday, March 12 at SEM in a concert with the Semachords.

Yale’s New Blue all-woman a cappella group shared a bill with the Semachords at SEM on Saturday night in the chapel singing to a packed house. The group returned to school today to sing in morning meeting and give a lunchtime workshop.

Abby Hopkins ’16 (Yale ’20) brought her group on a hometown tour for spring break. This morning she sang Valerie (a song Amy Winehouse famously covered) with both her high school and college groups together on stage.

New Blue often does hometown tours which fundraise for other tours further afield.

“It’s been a great experience, getting to be with young, empowered women,” said 21-year-old Sade Kammen, the political science and human rights major who sings alto 2 and is the business manager for the group.

The group will sing at the Garret Club on Tuesday, March 13.
