New Faculty & Staff
We welcome Dijana Šavija who will teach two Advanced Spanish classes and one AP Spanish class. Dijana most recently taught at UB; she replaces Sra. Linda Slingerland who left SEM after nearly a decade (9 years!) to homeschool her children at the end of the 2016/17 school year.
Andrea Sauers, a marketing and proposal coordinator for a local architecture firm, will be a part-time house director, living in the Wendt House.
New Titles & New Offices
Susan Beich who was director of the annual fund is now development operations director.
Kanika Durland is now director of equity and expansion – this is a newly created position. You can read an interview with Mrs. Durland in SEM Today magazine. Her office is on the second floor by the gallery, in room 210.
Kristine Kemmis is now director of planning and operations.
Denise Merrell who was business manager, is now director of finance.
Ann More ’79, executive assistant to the head of school, will now be in room 121, across from the senior lounge.
Milestones
June 15, faculty and staff who reached milestone teaching anniversaries this year were celebrated in the Magavern-Sutton Courtyard: College Counselor Molly Greene ’98 (10 years), science faculty Jennifer Goetz-Bixby (15 years), math faculty Courtney Heaps (5 years), Head of School Helen L. Marlette (10 years, including this past one year as head), and Admission Director Laura Munson ’79 (5 years).

Sarah Wooten, our second year academic fellow in the math and humanities departments and who was married last summer, is now Mrs. Sarah Wright.

Arts faculty member Caitlin Cass married fellow artist Marc Tomco in August.

Sharon Ammerman, who was married to Jon Kounovsky in June became Mrs. Sharon Kounovsky.
Babies!
Juliette Wienckowski was born July 21. She weighed 6 lbs. 14 oz. and was 19 3/4 in. long. Mrs. Wienckowski will be on maternity leave until October 10. Who will sub for Mrs. Wienckowski? Glenna Leous, former freshman physics teacher and freshman dean! We did without her for the last year since she retired, and we’re thrilled she’ll be back for a bit.
Spanish teacher Paula Acosta’s first baby is due in late November.
New SEM Pets
Beth Adamczyk’s new apricot cockapoo Daisy, arrived at SEM in July. She has made her peace and her place with Gherty and Pawlette, who also inhabit Ms. Adamczyk’s office in technology, and she looks forward to meeting each and every student.
Admission Director Laura Munson has a new dog too: Winston the Scottie. He may be spotted in the admission office after 3:30 PM.
New dog in the Niscah House: Sarah Wright (formerly Wooten) and her husband Emerson adopted Adelaide, a rescue.
