SEM opens this fall with optimism and excitement about what the new year holds.

  • SEM graduates Molly O’Connor Greene ’98, Ann Goldman More ’79, and Laura Munson ’79 are thrilled to be joined by alumna Julianna Glauser Jordan ’05 on the faculty and staff at SEM this school year. Julianna is the new alumnae relations coordinator.
  • This summer art teacher Caitlin Cass was named an Artist Fellow of the New York Foundation for the Arts/New York State Council on the Arts and she had a cartoon published in the August 27 issue of The New Yorker! She also opened a solo show “Myths and Maxims” at the Argus Gallery on Sept. 8.
  • Science department chair Joanie Wienckowski completed her MA in education and her teaching certification at UB.

Weddings:

  • Math teacher Andrea Mastracci became Andrea Wagner.

Title changes:

  • Kanika Durland is now the assistant head of school for academics & equity.
  • Eva Cunningham is now the dean of students and will continue to oversee athletics.

New faculty:

  • SEM has two new English teachers: Dr. Matt Durkin and Jesse Mank.
  • Caitlin Littlefield is our new dean of teaching & learning.
  • Our new Lipke House director is also our new fellow: Christine Gillis.
  • Our new science teacher, Dr. Pradeep Yerramsetty, is also the Oishei House director with his wife Olga Glagvoyak.
  • Other house directors are language teacher Gabriela Bernecki in Niscah House and Rob McFarlane who will also assist in the athletics department, and Andrea Sauers in Wendt House.
  • Elizabeth Coffey has returned to SEM as director of summer programs, to assist in athletics (she is a former SEM athletics director) and she will teach AP Biology.

New staff:

  • Welcome to Amity Lippes Mann, our new Director of Development. Amity comes to us from Unyts, the organ donation non-profit. The SEM community service board has a longtime connection to Unyts.
  • Our new nurse, Kim Skroma, welcomed her first grandchild, Zoey, on Sept. 10.
